EDMOND (March 1) –
Jared Sterling went the distance against Washburn, striking out nine and walking just two, as Central Oklahoma rolled to an 11-2 rout on a dreary Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

Sterling retired the first seven hitters he faced and scattered five hits over nine innings while allowed two unearned runs.  When the Ichabods did have a runner on base, Sterling twice induced an inning-ending double play.

Washburn's leadoff man reached base only twice, on an error in the fifth and a leadoff single in the ninth.  The runner in the ninth was part of a double play that ended the game as Sterling gave an emphatic fist pump.

The Bronchos took three of four games from WU in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series, improving to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the league.

"I was really happy for our players today and all weekend," head coach Dax Leone said.  "These conditions were not ideal and Washburn is a really good team. Jared (Sterling) was terrific on the mound and we competed hard as a group."

Sterling got all the run support he needed in the second inning.

Matt Johnson led off the frame with his fourth home run of the season and Jake O'Brien added an RBI triple before scoring on a wild pitch.

The Bronchos had 10 hits by 10 different players on the day and eight different players scored a run. UCO added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before blowing it open in the eighth.

UCO flirted with the run rule in the eighth inning when it scored six runs behind a two-run double by Wacey Henderson and a two-run single by Cesar Wong.

The Bronchos continue MIAA play next weekend, traveling to Bolivar, Mo., to face Southwest Baptist in a four-game series.
