EMPORIA, Kan. (Feb. 22) – Ricky Reeves threw a one-hit shutout to give Central Oklahoma a 2-0 second-game victory and a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader split with Emporia State here Saturday.
The two teams combining for 33 runs and 38 hits in UCO's wild 17-16 series-opening victory Friday, but pitching ruled the day Saturday.
ESU limited the Bronchos to four hits in a 5-0 first-game victory before Reeves dominated in the nightcap with a complete-game one-hit shutout. The junior right-hander walked just one and struck out six in the seven-inning gem.
Robbie Hoffman provided the offense, going 3-for-3 and driving in both runs with RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings. Hoffman is 7-for-8 in the series.
The Hornets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener and UCO was never able to answer back.
The Bronchos (6-1, 2-1) and ESU (4-3, 1-2) finish the series Sunday with a 1 p.m. contest.
