EDMOND (Feb. 16) – Matt Johnson and Josh Ingram each drove in three runs, while Ricky Reeves scattered eight hits over six innings and allowed two runs as Central Oklahoma completed a sweep of Arkansas-Fort Smith, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.
Reeves did not allow a run until the sixth when Josh Vanderpool singled to left and plated two runs after it kicked away from the left fielder. Reeves walked just one and struck out five to earn the victory in his first start for UCO.
Josh Ingram gave the Bronchos some cushion in the fourth when he cleared the bases with a three-run double to make the score 4-0. Johnson and Jake O'Brien added RBI singles in the fifth to make it a six-run lead.
After the Lions tightened the score in the sixth, Johnson once again put the Bronchos up six with a two-run blast off the scoreboard in left. The Lions added a couple of runs in the ninth, but Phillip Wilson was able to get out of the jam to preserve the victory.
UCO travels to Fort Worth, Texas to play Arlington Baptist on Tuesday with the first pitch slated for 2:30 p.m.
