JOPLIN, Mo. (Sept. 20) –
A lopsided advantage in scoring chances didn't pan out for Central Oklahoma here Friday night as the Bronchos were forced to settle for a frustrating 0-0 tie with Missouri Southern.

UCO failed to put a ball in the net despite outshooting the Lions 21-5 in regulation and 24-7 after two overtimes and 110 minutes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opener for both teams, dropping to 2-3-1 on the season and 0-0-1 in the league.

"We had so many opportunities to score and just didn't get it done," head coach Mike Cook said. "Our defense did a great job and it seemed like we controlled the game, but we didn't finish like we needed to."

The Bronchos had eight shots in the first half and 13 in the second, with 11 of those on goal. UCO added three more shots in the two OT periods, two of those on goal, and the Lions rejected all of them.

Emily Thornbrugh went the distance in goal for the Bronchos and had four saves to keep MSSU off the scoreboard.

UCO returns to action Sunday, going to Weatherford to face No. 25-ranked Southwestern Oklahoma in a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
