EMPORIA, Kan. (April 3) –
Central Oklahoma managed just four hits and one run in dropping a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader to Emporia State here Wednesday.

The Bronchos had two hits in a 3-1 first-game loss and two more in a 6-0 second-game setback, with Edgar Lopez a tough-luck loser on the mound in the opener despite throwing a complete-game two-hitter.

“Baseball can be a cruel game at times, especially when you're not executing on both sides of the ball,” head coach Dax Leone said.  “Our players are competing hard and not seeing the results, which happens during a long season.  Any time you only get four hits and score one run in 16 innings you aren't going to be successful.”

UCO, now 17-14 on the year and 14-14 in the league, go to near-by Oklahoma Christian at 6 p.m. Friday before hosting the Eagles at 2 p.m. Saturday in a two-game home-and-home non-conference series.

The Hornets scored single runs in the first and second innings of the opener to go on top 2-0, with UCO's lone run of the day coming in the fourth when Jared Wright walked and came around on Ross Rose's double.

ESU answered back with a run in its half of the inning to make it 3-1 and that lead held up.

Rose and Matt Malloy had the lone hits for the Bronchos.  All three ESU runs were unearned as Lopez gave up just two hits and one walk while striking out five.

The Hornets scored one run in the first and third innings of the nightcap to take a 2-0 lead before making it 5-0 with a three-run outburst in the fourth and adding another single score in the fifth.

Crabtree and Chase Stephens managed the only two hits for the Bronchos.
