Rowing Team Signs Two

EDMOND (Dec. 3) – The Central Oklahoma women's rowing team signed Madison Wilfong and Taylor White to national letters-of-intent during the early signing period that ended recently.

Wilfong is familiar with the Oklahoma River, rowing for the OKC Riversport Junior Crew under coach Brian Ebke.  As a student at Washington High School, Madison is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 grade point average.

Madison also competed in basketball and track in high school, and will graduate in the top 10 of her class.  She plans to major in kinesiology at UCO.

"At six foot tall Madison brings some much needed height to the team along with experience rowing on one of the fastest junior teams in the country," said head coach Andrew Derrick.  "Under Coach Ebke, she has experience in every boat class and is very comfortable in small boats, which is something we are really trying to stress program wide."

White comes to Edmond from Wichita, Kan., where she was a member of the Wichita Rowing Club under coach Brian Adamson.  As a student at Maize South High School in Wichita, Taylor was president of the Family Career & Community Leaders of America club, as well a member of the French Club and the Pep Club.

Taylor also competed in tennis throughout high school, winning a regional championship in 2012 and qualifying for the state tournament the past two seasons. She plans to study elementary education UCO.

"Taylor is relatively new to rowing, but we have had the opportunity to watch her race several times and she clearly rows very, very hard," Derrick said.  "That's something you can't teach, and we look forward to having that level of intensity on the team."

"Both of these young women come from great families and have great heads on their shoulders.  They are hardworking and we really look forward to both being contributors and leaders on our team over the next four years."
