UCO Eliminated At National Rowing

WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (May 26) -- Central Oklahoma's varsity 8+ boat put up a spirited battle, but fell just short in advancing to the Grand Finale at the NCAA Division II Women's Rowing Championships here Saturday.

The Bronchos came in third in their heat Friday with a 7:19.27 time in the 2,000-meter race in which only the winner advanced to the Grand Final.  An elimination race was held Saturday morning -- with the top two boats advancing to Sunday's final -- and UCO finished third less than two seconds behind the final qualifying spot despite knocking almost 30 seconds off their Friday time.

Mercyhurst won the elimination race in 6:49.38, followed by Western Washington in 6:49.63 and the Bronchos in 6:50.94.

It was UCO's first-ever appearance in the national rowing meet.  Making up UCO's 8+ boat were rowers Jessica Lawson, Rachel Kliewer, Jenna Goodner, Michaela Rabenhorst, Kristin Philhower, Samantha Elliott, Jennifer Hagen and Kelsey Philhower along with coxswain Rachael Baalman.
