Rowing Stays Fifth In Rankings

EDMOND (May 2) – Central Oklahoma's rowing team continues its best season to date, maintaining its No. 5 NCAA Division II ranking in the most recent CRCA Coaches Poll.

The Bronchos moved up in the South Regional Rankings to No. 2  in both the Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ events in the wake of some strong performances recently.  UCO is second in the regional team rankings, up a spot from a week ago.

The Bronchos travel to Philadelphia next to compete in the Dad Vail Regatta, which is the largest colligate race in the country.  UCO will face six of the other top 10 ranked Division II teams in the country among a very deep field.  That will be the last race of the regular season for the rowing squad and a strong performance here could mean UCO's first bid to the NCAA National Championships.

“I am very proud of what this team has accomplished, but I don't think any of us are content with sitting back and ending the season in Philadelphia,” head coach Andrew Derrick said.  “Now that the team is starting to realize just what they are really capable of, they are wanting bigger and better things and watching the expectations of themselves rise has been extremely rewarding for our coaching staff this year.”
