EDMOND (Sept. 29) – Ashton Morris ignited a stunning first-half outburst that put Central Oklahoma in control early and the Bronchos went on to upend No. 25-ranked Dallas Baptist 4-1 Thursday afternoon at wind-swept Tom Thompson Field.

The Patriots entered the game having allowed just five goals in their first eight games, but Morris scored 1:58 into the contest, Brittni Walker added the first of her two scores two minutes later and UCO zoomed to a 4-0 lead midway through the opening half.

The Bronchos had little offensive success after that, but the damage had already been done and DBU had no answer.  The Patriots got a consolation score with less than five minutes remaining, ending a UCO shutout streak that lasted nearly 350 minutes.

It was the seventh consecutive win for the surging Bronchos, who improved to 7-3 in continuing their impressive rebound from an 0-3 start.  UCO has outscored its last seven opponents 21-3.

“We had a great, great start in the first half of the first half,” head coach Mike Cook said.  “We got ourselves open and took good shots that were on target, which is something we haven't been doing lately. We sat back a little bit after we got up 4-0 and I was a little disappointed in the consistency of the game, but it was a great win for us.”

DBU actually finished with a 13-10 shot advantage in the contest, but UCO made the most of their chances.

Morris got things started with her quick-strike goal, dribbling through the Patriot defense and nailing a 15-foot shot just 1:58 after the opening whistle.  Walker made it 2-0 at the 3:57 mark when she maneuvered her way through traffic and sent a bullet past DBU's goalkeeper from 15 yards out.

Katy Kashwer got in the act with an open-net goal from point-blank range in the 17th minute.  The senior midfielder took a cross from Lizzie Merritt and hit the post with her first shot, but she was right there for the easy follow and the Bronchos were up 3-0.

Walker added her team-leading seventh goal of the season at 22:17, booming a shot from the right side of the box to the left side of the net off an assist from Kashwer.

That was all the scoring for UCO, but it was more than enough.

Brandi Bartley went the distance in goal once again and had five saves, while Jordan Hutchison, Miranda Thorne, Shayna Kindsvater and McKenzie Caldwell helped pace the back-row defense.

The Bronchos now get an extended break, not returning to action until hosting Southwestern Oklahoma on Oct. 9.
