KINGSVILLE, Texas (March 12) –
Jordan Stern and Kade Kauk teamed up on the pitching mound to lead Central Oklahoma to a 7-3 first-game victory as the Bronchos earned a doubleheader sweep with Texas A&M-Kingsville here Saturday.

The Javelinas used a five-run seventh inning outburst to take an 8-6 victory in the second game to win two of the three games in the Lone Star Conference series.

UCO, now 7-13 on the year and 4-11 in league play, returns home to host Midland Lutheran in a 2 p.m. non-conference game Tuesday.

"We're close to putting all three phases of the game together," UCO coach Dax Leone said.  "Our playes are adjusting into the system and getting back to concentrating on the approach rather than the result.  The game is tough enough by itself and it's the ultimate game about the players."

Stern earned the win in the first game, giving up three runs while striking out six and walking two in 5 1/3 innings. Kauk didn't allow a hit in the last 1 2/3 innings to pick up his third save.

The Bronchos never trailed in the opener after taking a 2-0 lead in the second, getting a lead-off home run from Austin Rycroft and a sacrifice fly from Tucker Brown.

TAMUK made it 2-1 in the third, but UCO came back with three in the top of the fifth as Derik Grimes had an RBI single, Rycroft a run-scoring walk and Kevin Blue an RBI fielder's choice.

The Bronchos upped their lead to 6-1 on Ryan Schoonover's RBI single in the sixth before TAMUK got two runs back in the bottom of that frame.

UCO upped the lead to 7-3 in the seventh on Tyler Hancock's run-scoring single and the Javelinas had no answer.

Arrow Cunningham had two of UCO's 10 hits.

The Bronchos led most of the way in the nightcap, going ahead 1-0 in the first on Tucker Brown's sacrifice fly and making it 3-0 in the third when Cunningham belted a two-out, two-run homer.

Schoonover's solo homer in the fifth made it 4-1 and Tucker Brown had an RBI double in the sixth to put UCO on top 6-2.

But TAMUK came back, getting one run in the bottom of the sixth and then taking advantage of four walks and a key error to score five two-out runs in the seventh to move in front 8-6.
