UCO Finishes Fifth In Opening Tourney

AUSTIN, Texas (March 1) – Central Oklahoma knocked 18 shots off its first-day, but couldn't move up in the final team standings in the St. Edward's Invitational that ended here Tuesday Grey Rock Golf Club.

The Bronchos shot a final-round 312 on the 6,060-yard, par-71 layout and finished fifth in the 16-team, 36-hole tournament with a 642 total. Tarleton State won at 613, followed by host St. Edward's (616), Redlands Community College (618), Incarnate Word (636) and UCO.

“We played better today, but we still gave away too many shots and that's something we just can't do,” UCO coach Michael Bond said. “It wasn't a bad outing for our first tournament of the spring and we'll build from here.”

Erica Bensch led the Bronchos with a final-round 76, while Chaney Uhles shot 77, Emily Leahey 78, Raelynn Farthing 81 and Taylor Neidy 83. Bensch and Leahey tied for 17th in the individual race with 160 totals.

Mychael McWhorter had a closing 79 playing as an individual medalist.
