CANYON, Texas (Feb. 12) –
A five-run Central Oklahoma lead disappeared in a hurry here Saturday afternoon when West Texas A&M scored 19 runs in a four-inning stretch to hand the Bronchos a 19-6 Lone Star Conference setback.

UCO broke a scoreless tie with a five-run volley in the top of the third, but the Buffs answered right back with six runs in their half of the inning to seize the lead and then took control with a six-run fourth.

WTAMU added four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to end the scheduled nine-inning contest early on the 10-run rule. The Bronchos (1-1 overall, 0-1 in the LSC) and Buffs (3-0, 1-0) meet for a 12:30 p.m. doubleheader Sunday to end the three-game series.

UCO used three hits and two walks to gain its short-lived lead in the third.

Arrow Cunningham started the inning with a lead-off walk, Jordan Mullin followed with a bunt single and Taylor Brown loaded the bases with a one-out walk. Tyler Hancock then pushed across two runs with a single to center field and Brown scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Derik Grimes pushed the lead to 5-0 with his second home run of the young season, this one a two-run shot to right-center field.

The lead didn't hold up long, however, as WTAMU used four hits and an error to score six runs in the bottom of that frame and six more in the fourth made it 12-5.

The Bronchos got their final run in the fifth when Taylor Brown singled, went to third on Hancock's double and scored on a double play.

UCO finished with 11 hits, getting a 4-for-4 outing from Hancock.

The Buffs ended up with 16 hits, including nine doubles.
