DURANT, Okla. (Oct. 17) -- A four-match winning streak came to an end for Central Oklahoma here Monday night when the Bronchos dropped a hard-fought five-set decision to Southeastern Oklahoma.
UCO appeared to have the Savage Storm on the ropes after taking a 12-9 lead in the fifth set, but SOSU roared back with five unanswered points to surge ahead and went on to hand the Bronchos a 27-25, 19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 13-15 setback.
"It was a tough match that obviously could have gone either way," said UCO coach Jeff Boyland, whose team fell to 15-10. "We played pretty well for stretches, but weren't consistent enough and made some crucial mistakes."
Halie Harrington led the Bronchos with a career-high 15 kills, while Alex Richardson and Morgan Roy added 14 apiece and Jordan Jacobs 12. Tate Hardaker had 21 digs to pace the defense, with Roy and Ginger Gowen collecting 19 each.
The Savage Storm were serving for the win in the first set after taking a 25-24 lead, but UCO scored the final three points to pull out the win as Harrington had the go-ahead kill. SOSU tied the match with its second-set win and was up 9-8 in the third when Harrington had three keys to key a 6-0 run that put the Bronchos on top to stay.
UCO couldn't catch up after falling behind early in the fourth set to tie the match again and the final set went back-and-forth. It was tied at 9-all when the Bronchos got kills from Jacobs and Harrington in taking a 12-9 lead, but the Savage Storm rallied back with five straight points en route to pulling out the win.
UCO travels to West Palm Beach, Fla. this weekend for three matches in the Hyatt Place Sunshine Classic.
