ABILENE, Texas (Feb. 14) -- No. 12-ranked Abilene Christian proved to be a rude Valentine's Day host to Central Oklahoma here Sunday, smacking four home runs in a 15-hit attack to rout the Bronchos, 12-1.
UCO, hampered by lack of outside practice time in recent weeks because of poor weather, managed just two hits in the contest and also committed six errors
The Wildcats, who scored 12 unanswered runs to overcome a 6-3 deficit and earn a 15-6 win Saturday in the opener of the four-game Lone Star Conference series, stopped the scheduled nine-inning game on the 10-run rule in the bottom of the eighth with their final homer.
UCO, now 0-2 in its season-opening weekend of play, will try to even the series Monday when the two rivals meet for a 1:05 p.m. doubleheader.
"We didn't do much right today," head coach Wendell Simmons said. "We're making too many mistakes in every area of the game and you can't do that against good teams. Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow and finish the series on a good note."
The Bronchos scored their lone run in the top of the eighth on Ryan Schoonover's home run that cut ACU's lead to 9-1, but the Wildcats promptly came back with a three-run homer in their half of the eighth to end the game.
