UCO, Bensch Finish Second

DALLAS (Oct. 19) –
Central Oklahoma and Erica Bensch both earned runner-up finishes in the Dallas Baptist Classic that wrapped up a two-day run here Tuesday at The Golf Club of Dallas.

The Bronchos entered the day with a slim one-shot lead over three-time defending Lone Star Conference champion Tarleton State and finished five shots behind the TexAnns after firing a final-round 306 to finish the 36-hole tournament with a 593 total.  St. Edward's was third in the 15-team meet at 615, followed by Northeastern State (625) and West Texas A&M (629).

Bensch had UCO's low round of the day with a 74 and finished with an even-par 144 total in coming in second, one shot behind Tarleton's Jacqueline Lau.  Emily Leahey shot a closing 75 to tie for fourth at 148 and Raelynn Farthing tied for seventh at 150 after a final-round 77.

The Bronchos also got an 80 from Chaney Uhles and an 85 from Taylor NeidyMychael McWhorter competed as an individual medalist and had rounds of 84-82 in the tournament.

“The course played a lot tougher today with the weather and everything, but I was proud of the way we battled,” UCO coach Michael Bond said.  “We didn't back down and I think we showed that we're capable of playing with anybody.”

The Bronchos wrap up their fall schedule next week at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate in Duncan.
