EDMOND (Sept. 10) – A pair of freshmen teamed up for the game's only goal in the final minute of the first half and Central Oklahoma used a dominating defensive effort to blank Dallas Baptist 1-0 Thursday afternoon at Wantland Stadium.

UCO outshot the Patriots 14-6, with goalkeeper Megan Riley rejecting the only two shots she faced in going the distance between the posts.

The Bronchos, who played 14 freshmen and sophomores in the contest, improved to 1-3-1 and return to action Sunday in Wantland Stadium when they host Newman at 2 p.m.

“We played well for stretches and picked up a win we really needed,” UCO coach Mike Cook said.   “We had some scoring opportunities we didn't take advantage of, but our defense was strong and we're making progress.”

The Bronchos overwhelmed DBU in a first half that was spent mostly on UCO's half of the field, outshooting the Patriots 10-3 with a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

But UCO wasn't able to get a ball in the net until just 39 seconds remained in the half when Grantham took a long cross from Kindsvater and booted in a short-range shot in a crowd.

The Bronchos didn't get as many scoring changes in the final 45 minutes, but got good defensive play from Alli Miller, Summer White and a host of others in easily keeping DBU at bay.
