OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 8) -- Central Oklahoma opened the 2009-10 season with seven placers at the Oklahoma City Open on the OCU campus here Sunday.

The No. 6-ranked Bronchos got a runner-up finish from 197-pounder Jarrett Edison, while 125 Casy Rowell, 165 Derrick Adkins, 174 Brennan Ochoa and heavyweight Dustin Finn all took third and 149 Austin Standage and 174 Patrick Finn were fourth.

The all-day tournament attracted full teams from Division I powers Oklahoma State and Oklahoma in addition to UCO, the host Stars and others.

"For the most part there were a lot of positives, but obviously there's a lot of room for improvement," UCO coach David James said.  "There were quality wrestlers at every weight and our efforts were good, but we have some guys who have to learn that you've got to wrestle every tick of the clock and you can't ever let up."

Edison, returning to the mat after missing most of last season to injury, made it to the finals before falling to OSU's Alan Gelogaed.  Dustin Finn, a two-time national runner-up and ranked No. 1 this season, dropped an 8-4 semifinal decision to OU's Nathan Fernandez before coming back to take third.

Rowell and Adkins both had wins over OSU wrestlers in the consolation finals, while Ochoa beat teammate Patrick Finn in the third-place bout at 174.

The Bronchos open the dual season Wednesday, hosting OU at 7 p.m. inside Hamilton Field House.
