EDMOND (Oct. 9) –
Two goals in a three-minute span late in the contest capped off a dominating – and frustrating – second half that carried Central Oklahoma to a 2-0 Lone Star Conference shutout of Angelo State Friday afternoon at Wantland Stadium.

The Bronchos totally overwhelmed ASU in the final 45 minutes of the contest in cold, windy conditions, outshooting the Rambelles a staggering 20-0 in the second half while going with the wind.

But UCO missed numerous chances – some from point-blank range – and the game was scoreless until the Bronchos finally broke through with goals by Dominique Dinka and Meghan Saliba in the final 11 minutes to put ASU away.

It was the 10th win in 11 outings for UCO, which improved to 10-4-1 on the year and 4-1 in the league.  The Bronchos are back in action again Sunday at Wantland Stadium, hosting Abilene Christian at 1 p.m.

“We had so many great opportunities to score and just couldn't get the ball in the net,” UCO coach Mike Cook said.   “On one hand it's great that we're getting those chances, but we have to take advantage and make those goals.”

Neither team did much in the first half in getting off four shots apiece, though solid defense by Dinka, Alli Miller and Summer White stymied ASU while the Rambelles had a strong north wind at their back.

The Bronchos got that wind in the second half and were on the attack immediately, getting three corner kicks in the opening five minutes.  ASU goalkeeper Melanie Peterson made six saves and UCO misfired on several wide-open shots as the Rambelles somehow managed to stay tied through the first 34 minutes of the half.

Dinka finally broke the deadlock with 10:56 left to play when the freshman defender took a pass from Summer Grantham and knocked in a shot from 15 yards out for her first goal of the season.

UCO was back in business a couple of minutes later, with Saliba taking a Tiffanie Meek corner kick and hammering home her third goal of the season from 20 yards away in the 83rd minute.

Megan Riley went the distance in goal for the Bronchos, rejecting the only shot on goal she faced.
