COMMERCE, Texas (Oct. 22) -- Another five-set battle led to another heartbreaking loss for Central Oklahoma here Thursday night as the Bronchos dropped a tough Lone Star Conference decision to Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Lions pulled out a 31-33, 25-14, 21-25, 25-20, 15-11 victory to hand UCO its seventh five-set setback in eight tries this season. The Bronchos fell to 11-15 overall and 3-6 in the league with their fifth straight loss, while A&M-C improved to 20-7 and 5-3.
"I don't know how to explain it, but obviously we keep coming up short in five-set matches," UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. "We battled hard tonight and had a chance to pick up a great road win over a really good team, but it just wasn't meant to be.
"I'm proud of my team and the fight they continue to show. We're going to keep plugging away and try to get things going our way."
Zuela Adom led the Bronchos in the fiercely-contested battle, collecting 21 kills for her second consecutive 20-kill outing while adding 11 digs. Kristen Wilson added 17 kills and a career-high 24 digs.
UCO also got 11 kills from Carly LeMay, with Meaghan Wedberg contributing 47 assists, 12 digs and three blocks, Courtney Whitlow five kills and five blocks and Ginger Gowen a career-high 34 digs.
The Bronchos contine league play Saturday with a 2 p.m. match at Texas Woman's.
