Boyland Picks Up 200th Win

Jeff Boyland

LAWTON, Okla. (Sept. 20) – Jeff Boyland picked up his 200th career coaching win as Central Oklahoma rallied for a thrilling five-set Lone Star Conference win over Cameron here Saturday.

The Bronchos overcame a 2-1 deficit in pulling out a 25-21, 23-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-13 triumph, breaking away from an 11-11 tie in the fifth set to improve to 5-11 on the year and 1-1 in league play.

Boyland moved to 200-64 in his eighth year as a head coach, including a 129-53 mark in his sixth year at UCO.

“It was a struggle, but we stayed in there and found a way to get it done,” Boyland said. “It was a barn-burner all the way and we pulled out a big win.”

The Bronchos got two kills from Kim Iten and took advantage of three Cameron hitting errors to break away from a 5-5 tie in the fifth set and take a 10-5 lead, but the Aggies came back to tie it at 11-all.

UCO went ahead for good on Meaghan Wedberg's kill, with a spike by Courtney Whitlow and a CU hitting error pushing the advantage to 14-11. The Aggies scored two straight points to pull within 14-13 before making another hitting miscue to give the Bronchos the win.

Kristen Wilson led UCO with 22 kills and 15 digs, with Jessica Legako adding eight kills and six blocks and Whitlow seven kills. The Bronchos also got 40 assists, 14 digs and six kills from Wedberg along with 32 digs from Sarah Niles.
