TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 30) -- A long weekend continued for Central Oklahoma here Saturday afternoon as the Bronchos lost their last two matches in the Tampa Classic.
Tournament host and No. 7-ranked Tampa beat UCO 25-19, 25-17, 25-17 (Box Score) and No. 21 Ashland handed the Bronchos a 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22 setback (Box Score).
"Tampa's got a great team and they took it to us," UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. "We played better against Ashland and probably should have beat them, but just couldn't finish it off."
Tampa hit a staggering .506 in the match, collecting 49 kills with just five errors in 87 attacks.
Sophomore Kristen Wilson led the youthful Bronchos with nine kills, while junior Meaghan Wedberg had seven kills and 15 assits.
Wilson also had a match-high nine kills in the loss to Ashland, with Wedberg and Jessica Legako adding eight apiece.
The Bronchos return to action at the Missouri Southern Invitational Sept. 5-6.
