SAN ANGELO, Texas (Oct. 19) – Central Oklahoma fended off three late shots by Angelo State to hold on for a scoreless tie in a Lone Star Conference soccer battle here Sunday afternoon.
The Rambelles threatened a trio of times in the final two minutes of the second overtime, but goalkeeper Samantha Rusk came up with a key save on one shot and UCO defenders blocked the other two to arrange the 0-0 deadlock.
It was the third tie of the season – a school record -- for the four-time defending league champion Bronchos, now 9-4-3 on the year and 3-2-1 in LSC play.
“We couldn't get much going offensively, but at least we came up with some big defensive plays to keep us from losing the game,” UCO coach Mike Cook said. “We're just not playing with the consistency that we need to and we have to get that fixed.”
The Bronchos were outshot 19-7 in the game, with UCO only getting three shots on goal. Two of those were by Jenny Racicot, who nearly ended the game late in the first overtime with a shot that was deflected by ASU's goalkeeper.
UCO returns to conference action and plays its final two home games this week, hosting Northeastern State on Thursday and East Central on Sunday.
