Bronchos Picked Sixth In Women's Golf Poll

Central Oklahoma Opens Season In Three Weeks

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma was picked sixth in the 2026-27 MIAA Women's Golf Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced Thursday.

"There are several teams that have a chance," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "It's a tough league. A handful of teams are competitive. We just need to worry about our game and take it one round at a time."

Central Oklahoma begins the 2026-27 season Sept. 21 in Andover, Kansas. UCO has five tournaments in the fall including the annual Grace Shin Invitational at Golf Club of Edmond Oct. 5-6. The Bronchos are also hosting the annual Southern Invite in Houston, Texas to start the spring season.

Bond returns seven players from last year's squad, including two All-MIAA selections. Senior Estela Castillo and junior Layne Ailshie are back after leading the Bronchos last year. Castillo's 76.7 career scoring average through 83 career rounds ranks fifth on Central's all-time list. The Palma, Spain native also ranks 10th in career rounds played at UCO. Ailshie's name also appears in the record book. The Fort Gibson, Oklahoma native shot a 214 at the NCAA Central Region Championship in 2025, the best 54-hole score in UCO history.

The Bronchos also return Josey Cavitt, MaKaylee Cowan, Reagan Plank, Faith Principato, and Scarlet Sturch. A senior from Durant, Sturch shot a 142 at the Grace Shin Invite last season to post the sixth-best 36-hole score in school history.
