Bronchos Are 12th At Regionals After First Round

Central Oklahoma Shoots Opening Round 320 In St. Joseph, Missouri

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma is in 12th place after the first round of the NCAA Central Region Championships at St. Joseph Country Club Monday. Second round action begins Tuesday morning with the 54-hole event wrapping up on Wednesday.
 
UCO posted a 32-over-par 320 after one trip around the 5,966-yard Par 72 course. Rogers State and Henderson State lead the 18-team field after the two squads posted 21-over-par 309s on Monday. Washburn and Nebraska Kearney (310) are tied for third and Minnesota State (315) rounds out the top five.
 
Scores were high all around for the 96 individuals in the tournament with an average score of 80.9 on Monday.
 
Layne Ailshie is tied for 14th after a 5-over-par 77. The sophomore from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma had nine pars and a pair of birdies on the day to counter a handful of bogeys. Ailshie birdied the Par 3 11th and the Par 5 18th to finish her day.
 
Grace Hall is tied for 24th individually. The freshman from Austin, Texas overcame a tough start making the turn at 6-over par. She had eight consecutive pars from holes 9-16 and then finished with a birdie on No. 18 just like Ailshie did. Hall is 7-over after an opening round 79.
 
Estela Castillo and Scarlet Sturch both shot 10-over-par 82s on Monday. Castillo had one birdie on the Par 5 17th to go along with eight pars. Sturch made 10 par putts in her round. MaKaylee Cowan shot an 11-over 83 with a birdie on the Par 4 12th. She sank six par putts on the day.
 
UCO will tee off in the late wave on Tuesday beginning at 12:10 p.m. Hall will be the last Broncho off the first tee at 12:50 p.m.
 
The top five teams advance to nationals in Florida May 18-22. The top three individuals not on an advancing team will also continue their postseason later this month.
