UCO Finishes Ninth At Regional Championships

Central Oklahoma Season Ends Following Postseason Tournament

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Central Oklahoma's season came to an end Wednesday following a ninth-place finish in the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships at St. Joseph Country Club.

The Bronchos finished ninth with a 54-hole team score of 955, posting rounds of 320, 316, and on Wednesday, a 319.

"We felt like we had a good chance to finish high enough to extend our season, but it didn't work out this week," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "There were a lot of really high scores this week and we couldn't find a way to get up to where we needed to be.

"It was a good year for us," Bond continued. "We had some ups and downs and had a really good finish to the regular season."

Southwestern Oklahoma State won the Central Region title with a 926, two shots better than runner-up Nebraska Kearney's 928. Rogers State (937), Minnesota State (941), and Arkansas Tech (942) rounded out the top five, which advance to nationals in Florida next week.

Freshman Grace Hall led the Bronchos with a sixth-place finish at regionals. The rookie shot a 12-over-par 228 this week, lowering her score each round. Hall started with a 7-over 79 on Monday, then posted a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.

She saved her best round for last, carding a 1-over-par 73 on Wednesday. Hall had back-to-back bogeys on No. 3 & 4 but an eagle on No. 6 brought her back to even par. She followed with a bogey and a birdie, then parred No. 9 to make the turn at even par. Hall's bogey on No. 10 was her final blemish. She parred the final eight holes to close out the 1-over 73.

Layne Ailshie finished 40th with a 241 (77-83-81) and Estela Castillo was 49th with a 242 (82-80-80). MaKaylee Cowan (245) and Scarlet Sturch (252) also competed.

Ailshie finished with a 9-over 81 on Wednesday. The sophomore had a birdie on No. 4 and finished the day with eight pars. Castillo shot an 8-over 80 on Wednesday. She started the day with five consecutive pars and made 14 on the day.

Cowan's 13-over 85 on Wednesday included eight pars. Sturch made seven pars on her final round of 15-over-par 87.
