Reagan Plank Leads UCO In Season Debut

Bronchos Tied For Seventh In 15-Team Event

ANDOVER, Kan. – Central Oklahoma redshirt freshman Reagan Plank shot a 1-under-par 70 in the first tournament of the season for the Bronchos Monday at the MIAA Preview.

UCO is tied for seventh after one trip around Terradyne Country Club. The Bronchos posted a 12-over 296 on Monday. Southwestern Oklahoma State leads the 15-team field at 287, one shot ahead of Wayne State's 288. Missouri Southern (290), Nebraska Kearney (293), and Northwest Missouri and Washburn (294) round out the top six squads.

Plank is playing in the lineup for the first time in her young career. The second-year player from Owasso, Oklahoma competed in three tournaments last year as an individual. On Monday, Plank carded a career-low 70 and is three shots behind the leader, Maria Velillia of SWOSU.

Plank started the day on No. 11 and parred the first four holes she played. She bogeyed No. 15, then sank six straight par putts before a second bogey on No. 4. Then Plank got sorted out. She birdied the Par 4 fifth, sank two par putts, birdied the Par 5 eighth, sank another par putt, and finished her day with a birdie on the Par 3 10th.

Plank carded 35 on both nines for the 1-under-par 70.

Scarlet Sturch shot a 1-over-par 72 and is tied for 11th. The senior, playing in her 31st career tournament, had back-to-back birdies on 15 & 16, then two more on No. 4 & No. 5. Sturch shot even-par on the back nine and was 1-over on the front nine.

Layne Ailshie shot a 5-over-par 76 in her senior debut. The junior was 7-over through 13 holes played but she made two birdies and played her final five holes 2-under.

Ivanna Gerez and Estela Castillo both shot 78s on Monday. Gerez started on No. 10 and was even turning back to the front nine but had a rough stretch from No. 2 to No. 7, playing 7-over on those six holes. Castillo sank two birdies and 10 par putts but also carded five bogeys and a quad in the round.

Central Oklahoma will tee off in the second and final round Tuesday morning. The season opener this week marks the first of five consecutive weeks the Bronchos are on the course.
