Bronchos Playing In MIAA Preview In Kansas

ANDOVER, Kan. – Central Oklahoma begins the 2026-27 season Monday with the MIAA Preview at Terradyne Country Club.

The Bronchos are scheduled to play 18 holes on Monday beginning at 9 a.m. and will play 18 more on Tuesday starting at 8:30 a.m. Terradyne is the sight of the 2027 MIAA Women's Golf Championships in April.

Central Oklahoma's lineup for the season opener includes veterans Estela Castillo, Scarlet Sturch, and Layne Ailshie. Newcomer Ivanna Gerez and redshirt freshman Reagan Plank are also in the lineup. Gerez joined the program this fall after spending the past two seasons at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Oklahoma. Plank appeared in three events last season as a true freshman.

The Bronchos are led by the senior veteran, Castillo. She has played 83 rounds of golf over the past three seasons for Central Oklahoma and already ranks ninth in school history for most rounds played entering her senior season. Castillo's 76.78 career scoring average also ranks fifth in school history entering this season.

Sturch is another senior in the lineup for the Bronchos and she has 75 career rounds played for the Bronchos. The Durant, Oklahoma native is on pace to crack the top 10 for career rounds played this fall. She has a 78.5 scoring average for her three-year career and is just outside of that top 10, with the 10th best mark at a 78.0 career average.

Ailshie is a junior with 46 career rounds played. She played in six tournaments as a true freshman and all 11 last season. She also has a 78.0 career scoring average and will contend for a spot on the top 10 list as she meets qualifying rounds played. Ailshie tied a UCO record with a 54-hole score of 214 at the Regional Invitational last season.

Plank made her collegiate debut at the Grace Shin Invitational last October and finished 18th individually with a 36-hole 147. She also played UCO's Southern Invite in Houston in February and shot a 54-hole 239. In her final appearance, Southern Nazarene's Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite, Plank posted a 36-hole 158. She recorded a 77.7 scoring average in seven rounds on the season.

Gerez spent two seasons at Redlands playing for UCO Hall of Famer Taylor Neidy and was a standout for the RCC Cougars. She held a 77.6 scoring average through 26 rounds last season. Gerez had eight Top 10 finishes including a win at the Conquistador Classic in April. She also had two runner-up finishes and three third-place finishes. She averaged a 79.6 her freshman season with four Top 10 individual finishes.

The MIAA Preview not only marks the beginning of the season, but also five straight weeks of golf for the Bronchos. UCO is playing in the DBU Classic in Dallas next week before hosting the annual Grace Shin Invitational Oct. 5-6 in Edmond. The Regional Preview is the week after that in Kearney, Nebraska and Central wraps up its fall slate Oct. 19-20 in the Midwestern Invite in Wichita Falls, Texas.
