Mei Hasegawa Named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year

Ana Naranjo Martinez Named ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year

TEMPE, Ariz. – Central Oklahoma sophomore Mei Hasegawa was named ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year and Ana Naranjo Martinez was named ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year, the association announced Tuesday.
 
Naranjo Martinez joined UCO in January and helped the Bronchos to an 18-4 season. Central went 8-1 in the MIAA and won the regular season title. The Bronchos reached the MIAA Women's Tennis Championship final and then hosted the NCAA Central Region tournament in Edmond.
 
Hasegawa also joined UCO in January and made an immediate impact. The Nagoya, Japan native lost her first career match in a close three sets, then won the next 18, finishing her rookie season 18-1. She went 9-0 in the MIAA and was named MIAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year. Hasegawa also went 4-1 against nationally ranked opponents.
 
In doubles play, Hasegawa went 19-2 this season, including winning each of her final 13 matches. She went 9-0 in MIAA contests and was a First Team All-MIAA selection at both singles and doubles. Hasegawa rose to No. 20 in the country in the ITA Singles Top 75 and was up to No. 6 in the country in the ITA Doubles Top 50 at her best this season.
