Tyana Hymes Leads UCO At MIAA Track Championships

Central Oklahoma Sophomore Finished Fifth In 400-Meter Hurdles

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Tyana Hymes raced to a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles on Championship Sunday to highlight the weekend for the Bronchos at the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Pittsburg State's newly opened Russell Jewitt complex.

Hymes finished fourth on Friday in the preliminaries with a career-best time of 1:02.63. The sophomore from Harker Heights, Texas punched her ticket to Sunday's final where she posted a time of 1:04.47, the second fastest of her career, for a fifth-place finish.

Central Oklahoma finished ninth in the team standings and all five points were earned by Hymes in the 400-meter hurdles.

Mikayla Stephenson got the weekend started on Friday evening in the 100-meter dash. She finished 17th in 12.53 seconds. McKenna Huston and Maya Conrad also competed Friday night in the 400-meter race and finished 11th and 15th respectively. Huston recorded a time of 58.19 seconds and Conrad an even 1:00.10.

Saturday in the 800m, freshman Gabija Pukstas finished 12th in 2:18.71. Huston competed in the same event and finished 16th in 2:21.71. Hymes ran the 100-meter hurdle prelims on Saturday and finished 15th in 15.42 seconds.

UCO had two more competitors on Saturday night in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Maya Winterburn finished 14th (12:33.36) and Kylee Smith 15th (13:32.65).

Pukstas returned on Sunday for the 1,500m and finished 15th (4:50.45). Ariane Williams and Winterburn competed in the 5,000m on Sunday and finished 28th (20:11.23) and 29th (20:36.37).
