Central Heads South For North Texas Meet

Bronchos Competing In UNT's Bill Schmidt Invitational Friday & Saturday In Denton

DENTON, Texas – Central Oklahoma competes in the two-day Bill Schmidt Invite this weekend at North Texas for the final meet of the regular season.
 
The Bronchos begin Friday at 4 p.m. with nine student-athletes in the 200-meter race. UCO will also compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 1,500-meter run Friday evening. On Saturday, action begins for UCO with Abigail Kelly in the shot put at 9 a.m.
 
Central Oklahoma has 17 student-athletes competing in the two-day event.
 
McKenna Huston, Mikayla Stephenson, Amiya Hill, Maya Conrad, Reta Ojene, Lauryn Thaggard, Marley Battles, Ty'reunae Taylor, and Jaelynne Knighton are all competing in the 200m for the Bronchos. Huston (26.04), Stephenson (26.74), and Ojene (26.98) have the top three times for the Bronchos this season.
 
Kylee Smith and Maya Winterburn will run in the steeplechase Friday at 5 p.m. Both are competing in the event for the first time this season. Winterburn's 13:10 and 13:13 are top two times while Smith has times of 13:38 and 14:31 this season.
 
In the 1,500m Friday evening, Gabija Pukstas, Asia Williams, Ariane Williams, and Lily Melton will all run. Pukstas has the top time at 4:56.70, which won the event at the West Texas Relays last month.
 
Kelly will compete in the shot put Saturday morning. Her season best is 11.91 meters. She will also throw the discus Saturday afternoon. Her best mark this season is 37.62 meters.
 
Stephenson, Knighton, Thaggard, Battles, and Ty'Renaeu will run in the 100-meter prelims early Saturday. Stephenson's 12.91 is the top mark this season for the Bronchos.
 
Tyana Hymes is set to run the 100-meter hurdle prelims Saturday morning and the 400-meter hurdles in the afternoon. Her best 100 time is 14.95 and in the 400, 1:04.79.
 
Pukstas and Asia  Williams will run the 800m Saturday afternoon. Pukstas also has this event's best time for the Bronchos this season at 2:16.27.
 
Huston, Ojene, Conrad, and Hill will race in the 400m Saturday afternoon. Huston's 57.28 is a season best for UCO.
 
Asia  Williams, Smith, Conrad, Ariane  Williams, and Melton will all compete in the 5,000-meters Saturday afternoon. Ariane  Williams has the top two times at 19:30 and 20:27 this season.
 
Central's 4x400m relay team will wrap up the meet Saturday at 3:35 p.m. The group of Conrad, Pukstas, Hill, and Huston have the top time this season at 4:02.78.
 
Central Oklahoma will head to Pittsburg, Kansas for the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 1-3 at Pittsburg State.
