Bronchos Win Back-To-Back MIAA Championships

Central Oklahoma Won The 2025-26 MIAA Men's Golf Championship Wednesday In Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma polished off its second straight MIAA Men's Golf Championship Wednesday in convincing fashion, winning the tournament by 21 shots.

Baylor Bostick won the individual MIAA Championship with a 7-under-par 209, while Rhett Hughes (211) finished second and Nick Canales (216) finished third. Karsten Paciotti and Ty Hyatt both tied for ninth individually with 3-over-par 219s.

"Really proud of the guys for seeing this through," UCO head men's golf coach Derrick Thompson said. "We didn't think we played very well on Monday and Tuesday was better, but they didn't let up and that's a great sign. We played our best golf in the final round and you always want to see that."

Central Oklahoma posted a 54-hole score of 853. The Bronchos had the low score in all three rounds. UCO shot 5-over par in the first round, 6-under in the second round, and then a blistering 10-under par in the final round.

Central Missouri finished second with an 874, 21 shots behind the Bronchos. Washburn (878), Newman (883), and Missouri Western (887) rounded out the top five.

Bostick, a junior from Duncan, Oklahoma, won the MIAA title with a 7-under-par 209. He began Monday with a 2-over 74, then shot a 5-under 67 on Tuesday to surge up the leaderboard and finished it off with a 4-under 68 on Wednesday.

Bostick started his day with a birdie and his only blemish was a bogey on No. 5. But he was back in the red with a birdie on No. 7, then sank his second eagle of the tournament on No. 12, a 516-yard Par 5. Another birdie on No. 14 put him 4-under par for the day. Bostick made 13 par putts on Wednesday.

It's the first MIAA title for Bostick and his second career victory. He also won the MSSU Fall Invitational earlier this season. Bostick earned his third All-MIAA honor with this week's finish.

Hughes, a sophomore from Edmond, shot a 1-under 71 on Monday and an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He also solidified the title Wednesday with a strong showing. Hughes shot a 4-under 68. He made birdies on No. 3 & 9 with bogeys on No. 8 & 12 and was even through 13 holes. Then Hughes got hot. The lefty went birdie-birdie-eagle on a three-hole stretch to get to 4-under and parred the last two holes to finish with a 68.

Canales' week got progressively better each day. The junior from La Porte, Texas shot a 3-over 75 on Monday and an even-par 72 on Tuesday. He climbed up to third on Wednesday with a 3-under-par 69. Canales had a bogey-free final round with birdies on No. 7, No. 9, and No. 15.

Paciotti and Hyatt recorded top 10 finishes with steady play this week. A senior from Katy, Texas, Paciotti shot a 2-over 74 on Monday, a 1-under 71 on Tuesday, and then another 2-over on Wednesday to finish in the top 10. He countered three bogeys with one birdie and 14 pars on Wednesday. Hyatt, a sophomore from Stillwater, sank 42 par putts this week, more than any golfer in the 55-player field. He shot a 2-over 74 on Monday, an even-par 72 on Tuesday, and a 1-over 73 on Tuesday.

Central Oklahoma continued its dominant play winning a third straight tournament this week. The Bronchos will now head to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional Championships in Big Rapids, Michigan May 7-9. The national championships are scheduled for May 18-22 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The top four teams at regionals advance to Las Vegas. UCO has won the last two regional tournaments.
