Bronchos Gain 15-Shot Lead At MIAA Championships

Central Oklahoma Was Tied For First Tuesday Morning, Bostick Leads The Way

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma began Day 2 of the MIAA Men's Golf Championships tied with Washburn for first place. Tuesday the Bronchos posted a 6-under-par second round and built a 15-shot lead heading into Wednesday's final round.

UCO shot a 282 on Tuesday and is 1-under for the tournament. Washburn shot a 9-over-par 297 and is 14-over for the tournament and in second place. Central Missouri, Newman, and Missouri Western make up the top five.

A big part of Tuesday's surge was the play of junior All-American Baylor Bostick, who shot a 5-under-par 67 to move up eight spots to first place. Rhett Hughes is tied for third, Karsten Paciotti is tied for fifth, and Ty Hyatt is in seventh place. UCO's fifth is junior All-American Nick Canales, who is tied for eighth place.

Bostick shot a 2-over 74 on Monday and followed up with the 5-under 67 on Tuesday. He was 1-under after three holes and even again after No. 6 but then sank an eagle on No. 7 to get to 2-under in the round. Bostick had birdies on 11, 15, 16, and 18 to finish with the 67. His 141 leads the field.
Hughes is at 1-under 141 after rounds of 71 and 72 this week. The sophomore started his day with a birdie and had a hiccup to finish the front nine with back-to-back bogeys. He birdied No. 11, then bogeyed 12, but then added a third birdie on No. 14 to get back to even par. Hughes sank 12 par putts in his second round.

Paciotti also moved up the leaderboard to fifth with a 1-under 71 and is at 1-over 145 for the tournament. He was 2-over on Monday and 2-over again on Tuesday after six holes, but then he, like Bostick, eagled the Par 5 seventh hole to get back to even par. He was 2-under after 12 before another bogey, then sank five par putts to finish the day.

Hyatt was the third Bronchos to shoot 2-over 74 on Monday. He followed with an even-par 72 on Tuesday to move up to seventh. Hyatt started with par, par, bogey, then sank five straight par putts before a birdie on No. 9 left him even at the turn. The sophomore then sank nine consecutive par putts to finish the day with a 72 and a 146 for the tournament.

Canales is the No. 1 bag in the lineup for the Bronchos but has been the non-counting score both days in Jefferson City. The junior shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday and his 3-over 147 after 36 holes. Canales was 3-under on the front nine before a bogey on No. 9. He played the back nine 2-over to finish even for the day.

Central Oklahoma is aiming to win its second consecutive MIAA Championship. The Bronchos will be in the final wave of tee times again Wednesday as they look to hold on to the lead.
