Bronchos Wrap Up Southern Invite, Castillo Finishes Second

Central Oklahoma Finishes 10th In Season Opening Event

SPRING, Texas – Central Oklahoma wrapped up the spring season-opening Southern Invite on Tuesday with a 10th place finish in the 54-hole tournament at Cypresswood Golf Club.

Estela Castillo led UCO with a career-best second-place finish in the individual standings. The junior from Spain was two shots of her first career win. Castillo shot a 220 for the tournament. She started with a 5-over-par 77 on Monday morning but responded with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon to shoot up the leaderboard. On Tuesday, she pressed the field again and posted an even-par 72 to land in second place.

UT Tyler won the team title with a 54-hole 882 (285-297-300). Dallas Baptist finished second with an 896. St. Mary's (907), Rogers State (908), and Midwestern State (909) rounded out the top five.

UCO opened Monday with a 312 and came back in the afternoon to post a 310. On Tuesday's final round, the Bronchos posted a 305.

Grace Hall was Central's second lowest scored with a 234 this week. After rounds of 83 and 79 on Monday, the freshman came back with an even-par 72 on Tuesday. She finished 42nd.

Layne Ailshie finished 45th with a 235 one shot back of Hall. Ailshie had back-to-back rounds of 76 on Monday and shot an 11-over 83 on Tuesday. MaKaylee Cowan finished 61st with a 241. She fired rounds of 79-84-78.

Reagan Plank played as an individual and shot a 239, posting rounds of 77, 85, and 77.

Central Oklahoma is back in action March 2-3 in Edmond. The Bronchos are playing in Southern Nazarene's annual Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite at KickingBird Golf Club. UCO will head to Destin, Florida the following week for the Emerald Coast Classic.
