Bronchos In Bricktown: UCO-RSU Baseball Moved To OKC

Central Oklahoma Plays Rogers State At Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark March 17

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma and Rogers State announced Thursday their MIAA baseball game March 17 will be played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City.

"Playing at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark will enhance the student experience and elevate the visibility of UCO's baseball program," UCO Vice President for Athletics Stan Wagnon said. "We're grateful to the Comets and also proud to work with Rogers State to put MIAA baseball on a bigger stage. 'Bronchos in Bricktown' has a nice ring to it, and we're excited to see everyone there."

First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. for the St. Patrick's Day MIAA game.

"We are really thankful to the administration and leadership at both UCO and Rogers for working to get this done, as well as the leadership at the Oklahoma City Comets organization for this opportunity," UCO head baseball coach Robbie Rea said. "It's going to be a great experience for our team to play in a Triple A ballpark that is honestly one of the best in the country. We are grateful and we're looking forward to it."

The Oklahoma City Comets are the Triple A affiliate of the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Built in 1998, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark has hosted minor league baseball for almost 30 years, as well as the Big 12 Championship, and more recently, the wildly popular Savannah Bananas.

Central Oklahoma and Rogers State will play three times this season. The two will play in Claremore on March 31 and in Edmond on April 14 at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is 3-2 this season after one week of play. The Bronchos beat Oklahoma Baptist in the season opener before going 2-2 at the eighth annual Edmond First Pitch Classic. Central is hosting Colorado Christian for a four-game non-conference series this weekend beginning Friday.

Rogers State is 4-1 this season.

The two teams have played 18 times with almost all of those meetings coming in the last five seasons since RSU joined the MIAA. Central Oklahoma has a 12-6 lead in the all-time series.
