Bronchos Host Newman Wednesday Night

Central Oklahoma Wraps Up January Schedule With Pair Of Home MIAA Games

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma closes out the month of January with a pair of MIAA home games at Hamilton Field House.
 
Up first is Newman Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. The Bronchos will also host Emporia State on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 7-12 on the season with a 2-8 record in the MIAA. The Bronchos are aiming to stop a four-game losing streak. Newman is also 7-12 and is 1-9 in league play. The Jets from Wichita, Kansas have lost eight in a row. Emporia is 10-9 on the season and 4-6 in the MIAA. The Lady Hornets play at Rogers State Thursday night before coming to Edmond on Saturday.
 
Entering the 20th game of the season, Central Oklahoma is averaging 64.1 points per game. The Bronchos shoot 37.3 percent as a team including a 26.2 percent-rate from behind the 3-point line. UCO shoots 67.1 percent at the free-throw line and averages 11.5 makes per game there.
 
Defensively, Central Oklahoma is allowing 64.2 points per game. The Bronchos have been outscored 1,220 – 1,217 in 19 games this season. Opponents shoot 36.6 percent overall, 32.0 percent from behind the arc, and 71.3 percent at the line.
 
Nykaiya Dillard continues to lead UCO in scoring through 19 games played this season. The freshman guard has come off the bench in 17 games and averages a team-high 12.8 points per game playing 18.2 minutes per game. Dillard leads UCO in field goals made (88), free-throws made (61), free-throws attempted (88), and steals (34).
 
Kaitlyn McCarn averages 11.3 points per game and is second in most offensive categories behind Dillard. McCarn adds 5.3 rebounds per game. She has taken a team-high 229 shots. The sophomore guard is second in shots made (84), free-throws made (34), and steals (20).
 
Central's two starting forwards, Jerney Bennett and Bobbie Fouquet, are putting up similar numbers to help lead UCO. Bennett averages 8.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game. Fouquet adds 8.3 points and 6.2 rebounds. Bennett (67) has made five more shots than Fouquet.
 
Olivia Quapaw (5.9), Peyton Walker (4.3), Kendrick Bailey (3.8), Talia Pogi (3.6), and Harley Harbour (3.1) are all adding to the scoring load to help UCO. McCarn, Bennett, Walker and Bailey also all have 20 steals, averaging 1.1 per game, to help on the defensive end for the Bronchos.
 
Central Oklahoma has a 14-1 advantage in the all-time series with Newman dating back to the mid 1990s. The Bronchos' 106-35 victory in the 1996-97 season was an exhibition game for the then NAIA Newman Jets. The 71-point margin of victory is the largest in UCO women's basketball history.
 
UCO also beat Newman in 2011-12 season during an independent year. Since Newman joined the MIAA in 2019-20, the Bronchos are 12-1 in the series. Newman's lone win came in Wichita in 2023. The Bronchos have won the last five, including a 73-55 victory in Wichita three weeks ago.
