Bronchos Open Tennis Season With Two Events

Central Oklahoma Competing In Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Tyler, Texas

TYLER, Texas – Central Oklahoma begins the 2025-26 season with two fall events this weekend, when the Bronchos will divide and conquer.

UCO is sending most of its team to Tyler, Texas for the UT Tyler Invite, while part of the group will head to Tahlequah, Okla. for Northeastern State's Battle by the River. Both begin Friday, while the Tyler Invite will continue into Saturday.

"We've only had a couple of weeks, but they've been good," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We've got a good group of returners and the newcomers are competing well so we're excited to see how they do against the competition."

Vann enters his fifth season leading the Bronchos and is coming off his third trip to the NCAA tournament in the past four years. UCO won the 2025 MIAA Championship, its fourth postseason tournament title in the league.

The Bronchos have seven returners, including All-American Pete Komada. Seniors Karyna Yurchenko and Marina Becaro, juniors Anika Ouwejan, Ayaka Koga, and Brylee Toney, and sophomore Hui Soo are all back as well. Newcomers include Dilay Ata, Haley Hibbets, and Milana Quick.

Komada, Koga, Ouewjan, and Yurchenko are all headed to Tyler. Soo, Ata, Becaro and Toney are all headed to NSU and will compete in both singles and doubles.

Komada, a former ITA Central Region Freshman of the Year, earned All-American honors during her junior season last spring. She brings 66 career victories into the new season. Yurchenko is right behind her with 65 career wins entering her senior season.

Ouwejan and Koga both earned All-MIAA honors along with Komada last season and look to continue that trend this year. Soo won 23 matches as a freshman and is poised for a big second year.

Central Oklahoma will only have these two tournaments this weekend, and the ITA Regional on its fall schedule. The Bronchos will compete with Central Region tennis players in Edmond Sept. 19-21 at Edmond Center Court.
