Grace Hall Leads UCO In Debut

Central Oklahoma Is 10th In Texas, Freshman Shoots Under Par In Collegiate Debut

CORINTH, Texas – Central Oklahoma played its first round of golf this season Monday and following a four-hour delay at Oakmont Country Club, the Bronchos are in 10th place at the DBU Classic.

UCO shot a 10-over-par 298 on Monday. Defending national champion and host Dallas Baptist is in first place with a 4-under 284. UT Tyler (292), Arkansas Tech (293), and Midwestern State and North Georgia (294) are in the top five.

Freshman Grace Hall is fourth individually after shooting a 1-under-par 71 in her first collegiate round of golf. The Austin, Texas native started her career with three straight bogeys on the back nine, but rallied and made the turn at even par. She sank a fourth birdie in the round on No. 4 and played the front nine 1-under to finish with a 71.

Layne Ailshie posted a 2-over 74 Monday, one shy of the sophomore's career best from last year's NCAA Regional. The Fort Gibson, Oklahoma native had a roller coaster start with four birdies, three bogeys, one double and a par on the back nine before settling down after the turn. She birdied No. 1, her team-best fifth of the day, and played the front nine 1-over.

Estela Castillo began her junior season with a 4-over 76 and began the day with seven consecutive pars on the back nine. She sank 15 par putts on Monday and was 2-over before the final hole. MaKaylee Cowan is one back of Castillo after a 5-over 77. Also a junior, Cowan made 11 par putts and also sank one birdie. Scarlet Sturch is 11-over after one round in her junior season.

The tournament was scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Monday and include the first two of three rounds at Oakmont's 6,396-yard Par 72 course. After a significant storm Monday morning caused a four-hour delay, the tournament will now end after 36 holes. Teams are scheduled to begin the second and final round Tuesday morning.
