UCO Earns ITA Team Academic Award, Five Student-Athletes Honored

TEMPE, Ariz. – Central Oklahoma was well represented on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's end of year academic awards announced Tuesday, with five Bronchos earning Scholar Athlete honors and the team receiving an award as well.

Central Oklahoma earned the ITA All-Academic Team award. Pete Komada, Nefeli Zafeiri, Hui Soo, Karyna Yurchenko, and Anika Ouwejan all earned the ITA Scholar Athlete award.

"We are really proud of the team for their accomplishments," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "They all work so hard on and off the court, on the road, in hotels, they're always keeping up with their work and they deserve to be recognized."

The ITA recognizes student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the previous academic year. The association also recognizes teams with a cumulative 3.2 GPA. In 2025, more than 700 Division II women's student-athletes were honored and 104 DII women's programs were as well.

Central Oklahoma won an MIAA championship in 2025, winning the league's postseason tournament as the No. 4 seed in the conference. With the win, the Bronchos earned a return trip to the national tournament.

UCO returns in 2025-26 with its fall slate this September.
