Bronchos Finish Ninth At MIAA Outdoor Championships

Central Oklahoma Scores All Its Points On Final Day

EMPORIA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma scored all of its team points on the final day of the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships that wrapped up Sunday at Emporia State.
 
Central Oklahoma had five student-athletes qualify for the Championship Sunday in four different events, and the Bronchos also had two relay teams competing on the third and final day of the meet.
 
Deriayah Lee punched her ticket to the finals in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and then finished seventh and fourth respectively on Sunday. In the 100-meter hurdles, Lee ran a 14.63 to earn the eighth and final spot in the final. On Sunday, she ran it in 14.60 to finish seventh. In the 400-meter hurdles, Lee ran a 1:01.89 to finish fourth and qualify for the finals. On Sunday, Lee finished fourth overall with a 1:01.24 mark.
 
Treasure Vallerie finished eighth in the 200m on Saturday with a time of 24.69 seconds. She was disqualified from the event in the finals.
 
Vallerie and Sai Brookins-Fleming qualified for the finals in the 400m, wit Brookins-Fleming finishing fifth (55.35) and Vallerie sixth (55.68) on Saturday. Only Vallerie competed in the final Sunday and she finished fifth in 55.24 seconds. Kerrigan Huynh and Genevieve Young also ran in the prelims. Huynh finished 11th (57.42) and Young 12th (57.52).
 
Sunday afternoon at the start of the 4x100-meter relay, Huynh's false start knocked the Bronchos out of the final. Huynh, Vallerie, Young, and Lee later ran the 4x400 and finished fourth with a time of 3:46.87.
 
Saturday, Mattison Thetford finished 15th in the pole vault with a 3.43-meter mark. Talyn Been did not record a height. Katlin Foster also started but did not finish the 10,000-meter race.
 
Central Oklahoma has one last chance, next weekend at West Texas' Last Chance Meet, to earn qualification into the national championships later this month in Pueblo, Colorado.
