Bronchos Are 11th At Shangri-La

UCO Shoots First Round 310, Will Wrap Up Tournament And Regular Season Tuesday

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma is in 11th place after one round of play at the Spring Regional Preview, hosted by Central Missouri at Shangri-La.

UCO posted a 310 Monday afternoon. The day was supposed to be 36 holes but the three-round event was shortened. A noon shotgun start got the first round going and teams will wrap up play with the second round Tuesday morning.

Central Missouri is in the lead with a 2-under-par 286. Henderson State (289), Arkansas Tech (293), Harding (295), and Missouri Southern (298) round out the top five.

Jirasuda Khunarak led UCO's efforts with a 4-over par 76 on Monday. The senior started on hole five and was 4-over through three holes. She settled in with eight pars on the next nine holes and then sank back-to-back birdies on Nos. 18 & 1.

Freshman Layne Ailshie is 5-over after one round. She was 3-over after two holes Monday but she played the next eight holes 2-under. Khunarak made 11 and Ailshie sank 10 par putts on the day.

Drew Faires continued the one-shot back trend with a 6-over 78. The senior led the Bronchos with 13 par putts on the day, including seven on the back nine.

MaKaylee Cowan posted a 7-over 79 to round out UCO's counting scores. Estela Castillo is also in the lineup and shot an 8-over 80 on Monday. Castillo joined Khunarak and Ailshie with two birdies and Cowan had one.

Central Oklahoma concludes the regular season with Tuesday's final round at Shangri-La. The Bronchos head to Kearney, Nebraska for the MIAA Women's Golf Championships next week before hosting the NCAA Central Region Championships May 5-7 at KickingBird.
