Central Oklahoma Earns Key MIAA Win In Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma started a weekend road trip Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 win at Northeastern State in MIAA play.

The Bronchos improved to 8-5 overall on the season with the win and 4-2 in the MIAA. Northeastern State is 5-10 overall and 3-3 in league competition.

UCO won the doubles point Thursday to grab an early 1-0 lead. Karyna Yurchenko and Hui Soo finished first at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 win. Anika Ouwejan and Nefeli Zafeiri won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point and Ayaka Koga and Pete Komada also won 7-5 at No. 2 doubles.

The first, second, and third singles matches to finish gave UCO the victory. Ouwejan won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles just before Yurchenko and Soo won at Nos. 5 & 6. Yurchenko picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and Soo won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

UCO got one more point from No. 2 singles, where Zafeiri won 6-2, 6-1. Komada dropped a 7-5, 7-5 battle at No. 1 singles, and Koga retired at No. 3 singles, giving NSU its two points in the match.

Central Oklahoma continues the road trip Saturday at Arkansas Fort Smith.
