UCO Falls At Rogers State

Bronchos Lose Fourth Straight, Return Home Thursday

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma dropped its fourth straight Tuesday afternoon, losing 7-5 at Rogers State in the third and final game of the three-game MIAA series.
 
UCO held leads of 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 5-3 in the game before the host Hillcats clawed back each time to tie and then take the 7-5 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning.
 
Chase Yarger got the loss on the day, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks in 1.1 innings. Caleb Burchfield got the start and threw five innings, allowing just one run on seven hits and no walks. UCO went to Denton Whiteside, Gage Norvell, Brody Berlowitz, Yarger, Brayden Thompson, and Preston Giltner out of the bullpen.
 
Central Oklahoma got its 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Caden Robertson scored Grant Randall on a sacrifice fly. Robertson added to it in the fifth, giving UCO a 2-1 lead with an RBI double that scored Garrett Long.
 
In the seventh, it was Robertson yet again, scoring Randall again with a single up the middle that gave UCO a 3-2 lead.
 
Matt Baughn made it 4-3 with an RBI single to score Carson Carpenter in the top of the eighth, then Long scored Joe Ricchio on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3.
 
Ty Chapman went 3-for-3 in the game to lead the Bronchos. Robertson and Carpenter both had two hits apiece.
 
Central Oklahoma has eight games remaining in the regular season, with seven at home at Wendell Simmons Field. The Bronchos host Northwest Missouri for three games beginning Thursday and will host Northeastern State on April 23. The Bronchos will visit Oklahoma Baptist for the final non-conference game of the season April 29 before hosting Missouri Western to wrap up the season May 1-3 in Edmond.
