UCO Run-Rules Rogers State To Win Season Series

Caden Robertson Hits 19th Home Run To Lead Bronchos In 17-4 Win

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma scored early and often in a 17-4 run-rule of Rogers State Tuesday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO improved to 25-8 overall and 15-6 in the MIAA with the win, its ninth consecutive victory.

"Pitching was really good today given the conditions, I'll take giving up four runs," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "Our offense has been rolling and it was good to see them do it again today."

Central Oklahoma scored 17 runs on 14 hits on a day with the wind blowing out at more than 20 miles per hour. UCO had five extra-base hits, led by MIAA Hitter of the Week Caden Robertson, who went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and four runs scored.

Ty Hammack, who belted a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to give the Bronchos a lead they never relinquished, went 3-for-5 with the homer and a double, five RBIs and three runs scored. Grant Randall had two hits and Garrett Long did too.

Caleb Burchfield got the start and threw 3.2 innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Brody Berlowitz threw 2.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits, picking up the first win of his career. Trent Gerber threw the final inning. UCO's pitchers struck out five batters, with Berlowitz fanning three and Burchfield and Gerber registering one each.

Hammack gave UCO the 3-0 lead in the first. The Bronchos got four more in the third. Ty Chapman scored one of his four runs on a bases-loaded walk. Joe Ricchio scored Robertson on a sac-fly and Carson Carpenter did the same to score Hammack. Matt Baughn's double scored Gonzalez to make it 7-0.

After Rogers got its four runs in the fourth, UCO added three more. Hammack's double to centerfield scored Chapman and Robertson. Then Gonzalez scored Hammack to make it 10-4.

In the fifth, Chapman scored Long with an RBI single and Robertson blasted his MIAA leading 19th home run of the season, a three-run shot to left that scored Chapman and Randall to give UCO a 14-4 lead.

Randall's two-RBI single to right center scored Long and Baughn in the sixth, and Robertson scored Chapman on a fielder's choice to make it the final, 17-4.

Central Oklahoma and Arkansas Fort Smith are set to play this weekend in a three-game MIAA series.
