Rowing Season Begins Saturday In OKC

Bronchos Welcome Kansas State, Tulsa For 2025 Opener

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma begins the 2025 season Saturday morning with races against Kansas State and Tulsa on the Oklahoma River.

UCO raced twice in the fall semester and returns for the first of five race days this semester.

"I am thrilled to look ahead to our upcoming races against Tulsa and K-State," interim head rowing coach Jimmy Francis said. "These competitions are pivotal for our team as they provide a platform to showcase the dedication, skill, and hard work our athletes have put into their training. This season, we have focused intensely on enhancing our technical execution and building mental resilience, qualities that I believe will distinguish us in these races. The team's spirit and cohesion have never been stronger, and as we approach the event, I am confident in their ability to perform at their best."

Francis took over the program this fall. He's been an assistant for three seasons, helping the Bronchos to three consecutive national championship appearances, finishing fifth, second, and third each of the last three seasons.

UCO will begin at 9 a.m. with a Varsity 8+ race against both Tulsa and Kansas State. The two guests will race a 2V8+ at 9:15 a.m. The Varsity 4+ race between all three schools is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. and all three squads will race a 2V4+ at 10 a.m.

After a break, the Varsity 8+ boats will race again at 11 a.m., TU and KSU's 2V8s will race again at 11:15 a.m., and the Varsity 4+ boats will race for a second time at 11:45 a.m.
