Bronchos Fall At Home To No. 21 Dallas Baptist

Central Oklahoma Loses 4-1 In Return To Court Following Three-Week Layoff

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returned to the court after a three-week break but fell short 4-1 against No. 21 Dallas Baptist Sunday afternoon.

Central Oklahoma is 4-3 following the loss. DBU is 10-0. The Bronchos now turn to MIAA play with matches at Emporia State and No. 5 Washburn this week in Kansas.

"We had a lot of chances that didn't go our way," UCO head women's tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We need to clean up those opportunities and give ourselves more of a chance to win matches. We're close but still have some work to do."

UCO lost all three doubles matches, with No. 1 & No. 3 playing close. Nefeli Zafeiri and Pete Komada lost 6-4 at the top position while Hui Soo and Karyna Yurchenko lost 7-6 (7-5) at the third spot. Ayaka Koga and Anika Ouwejan lost 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Koga would get UCO's lone point of the day. The sophomore from Japan won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles. But DBU took the rest, winning at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 to clinch the match.

Ouwejan lost 6-3, 6-2, Soo fell short, 6-2, 6-2, and Yurchenko lost 6-4, 6-1. Komada and Zafeiri were both in third sets at No. 1 and No. 2 respectively but matches were abandoned once DBU clinched the match.

Central Oklahoma plays at Emporia State Friday, March 28 at 3 p.m., and at No. 5 Washburn Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. The Bronchos return home to host Newman on Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
