Bronchos Race Creighton Tight In OKC

UCO Finishes Second In Two Saturday Morning Races Against Division I Opponents

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma finished second in a pair of races Saturday morning against Creighton and Milwaukee School of Engineers on the Oklahoma River.

Creighton took first in both races followed by UCO. MSOE and a second UCO boat split two third place finishes. Creighton also raced B and C boats in each race.

"Our team entered this race to compete for the win, but we knew Creighton had gained some speed since last year," UCO interim head rowing coach Jimmy Francis said. "The athletes fought hard in both events, pushing themselves and gaining valuable racing experience. While we always want to come out on top, these races were a great learning opportunity, and I'm proud of how the team handled the challenge. We're excited to head to Seattle next week for the Falcon Regatta, where we'll take on some of the top DII teams. It'll be another great test, and we're looking forward to seeing how we stack up."

In the Varsity 8+, Central Oklahoma finished the 2,000-meter course through tough conditions in 7:22.34, facing a cross-headwind on a cold morning. Creighton won in 7:13.06. Milwaukee was third in 8:00.30.

In the Varsity 4+, Central Oklahoma finished second in 7:59.43, only 1.4 seconds behind Creighton. The Blue Jays finished in 7:58.00. UCO's second boat took third with a time of 8:31.40.

Central Oklahoma will make it three weekends of competition in a row next week in the Pacific Northwest. The Bronchos are competing in the annual Falcon Regatta at Seattle Pacific on the L.W. Ship Canal.
