UCO Sets Multiple Records, Sends Sprinters To Finals At MIAA Championships

Bronchos Place Four In Finals On Day 1 Of MIAA Championships

MARYVILLE, Mo. – School records fell on Day 2 of the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Northwest Missouri State's Hughes Fieldhouse.

Deriayah Lee broke UCO's 60-meter hurdle record to punch her ticket to Championship Sunday. And Genevieve Young broke the UCO record for 600-yard race and also punched her ticket to Championship Sunday.

In the 400, Sai Brookins-Fleming finished third with a time of 55.11 seconds and Treasure Vallerie finished eighth with a time of 56.07 seconds. Both punched their ticket to Championship Sunday.

"It was a really good day for us," UCO head women's track & field coach Gus Schmader said. "We did really well today and now we have a chance to score some points on Sunday. That's a big deal for us and this program."

Lee ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.82 seconds to finish sixth in the preliminary races. The previous record was 8.83 seconds, set by Madison Berryman in 2014.

Young ran the 600-yards in 1:25.53 to finish seventh in the prelims. The previous record was 1:25.91, set by Jill Hagan in 2018.

Brookins-Fleming and Vallerie also raced in the 200 and finished ninth and 12th respectively. Brookins-Fleming finished in 24.63 seconds, missing the finals by 0.08 seconds. Vallerie finished in 24.94 seconds.

Kerrigan Huynh also competed in the 400 and finished ninth with a new PR of 57.54 seconds, missing the finals by 1.47 seconds. Faith Millner joined Young in the 600y and finished 15th with a time of 1:30.57.

Mattison Thetford also competed on Saturday, finishing 17th in the pole vault with a 3.28-meter clearance.

Championship Sunday begins at 12 p.m. Lee will race for the 60-meter hurdles championship at 2:05 p.m. The 400-meter finals will run at approximately 2:30 p.m. Young will race in the 600-yard finals at 2:50 p.m.

Central Oklahoma also has a relay team waiting for the 4:35 p.m. finals on Championship Sunday.

Huynh, Brookins-Fleming, Lee, and Vallerie will make up the 4x400-meter relay team.
