UCO Visits Henderson, Ouachita This Weekend

Bronchos Take On Two Great American Conference Schools In Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Central Oklahoma hits the road for the first time this season with a pair of non-conference matches at Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.

The Bronchos (2-1) are scheduled to play OBU first, Saturday at 2 p.m., before taking on Henderson State Sunday at 10 a.m.

UCO has alternated wins and losses in its first three matches of the season, with wins over Arkansas Tech and Harding. The Bronchos narrowly missed an upset of No. 15 Angelo State, 4-3.

Central Oklahoma has used the same lineup in each of its first three matches, with the regionally ranked duo of Nefeli Zafeiri and Pete Komada leading the way at No. 1 doubles. The duo is 1-1 this season, with an unfinished match against the No. 3 team in the country against Angelo State. Zafeiri also occupies the No. 1 position in singles play and is 1-2 this season while Komada is 2-1 at No. 2 singles.

Anika Ouwejan and Ayaka Koga, both sophomores, are 3-0 at No. 2 doubles. The duo has won 6-2, 6-4, and 6-3 in its three contests. Ouwejan is 1-2 playing at No. 3 singles. Koga is 3-0 at No. 4 singles and was named MIAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week after going 4-0 last weekend in Edmond.

Hui Soo and Karyna Yurchenko make up No. 3 doubles for the Bronchos. The duo helped UCO get doubles points against Arkansas Tech and Angelo State and only lost 7-5 to Harding. Soo is 0-1 at No. 5 singles, with unfinished matches against both Arkansas Tech and Harding. Yurchenko is 2-1 at No. 6 singles.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to face Southeastern Oklahoma State Feb. 28 in Durant and Dallas Baptist March 2 in Edmond for two more non-conference matches. The Bronchos open MIAA play at Emporia State, a long 26 days after the DBU match.
