UCO Returns For Spring Semester In Spring, Texas

Bronchos Hosting Southern Invite At Cypresswood Golf Club North Of Houston

SPRING, Texas – Central Oklahoma returns for the spring semester this week with the Bronchos hosting the Southern Invite at Cypresswood Golf Club Monday.
 
UCO, along with 14 other schools, will make two trips around the 5,898-yard Par 71 Cypresswood course beginning at 8:30 a.m. The tournament was originally scheduled to be 54 holes, but due to forecasted weather, Tuesday's third round has been caceled and the tournament will start and end Monday with 36 holes. 
 
Central Oklahoma competed in four fall tournaments and finished in the Top 10 twice.
 
"We're always excited to get back after the long winter layoff," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said. "We've put in as much work as you can and we're ready to see how we do this week. There are lot of good teams here, so it's going to be a tough field."
 
MIAA schools Arkansas Fort Smith, Rogers State, Central Missouri, and Nebraska Kearney are among the 15 schools competing. Great American Conference members Oklahoma Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma State, and Henderson State are in Texas as well. Lone Star Conference members Dallas Baptist, Midwestern State, St. Mary's, Cameron, West Texas A&M, and UT Tyler are there. And finally, GLVC member Missouri St. Louis is also in Texas.
 
DBU is ranked fourth in the country heading into this week's tournament. St. Mary's (8), West Texas (13), Central Missouri (14), UT Tyler (15), UMSL (16), and Rogers State (18) are also ranked in the Top 25. Five other schools are ranked in the Top 50 in the latest Scoreboard Powered by Clippd Division II women's rankings.
 
Central Oklahoma's average score is 311.1 from nine rounds of golf in the fall semester. A trio of players appeared in all four fall tournaments and will be in the lineup in Texas this week.
 
Jirasuda Khunarak brings a team-best 76.4 scoring average into this week's tournament. Scarlet Sturch and Estela Castillo have been near equal this season. Castillo has a 77.1 scoring average and Sturch has a 77.4 scoring average through nine rounds of golf.
 
MaKaylee Cowan played in two fall tournaments and has a 79.4 scoring average through five rounds of golf. Josey Cavitt also played in two tournaments in the fall and she has an 83.5 scoring average through four rounds of golf.
 
Drew Faires is also in Texas and will be competing as an individual. In one fall tournament, Faires shot 78-82.
 
Central Oklahoma is scheduled to compete in five spring tournaments, beginning this week in Texas. The Bronchos are scheduled to compete in the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite hosted by Southern Nazarene at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond March 3-4. UCO will make trips to Destin, Florida March 9-11, Fort Smith, Arkansas March 24-25, and Warrensburg, Missouri April 7-8.
 
The 2025 MIAA Women's Golf Championships are scheduled for April 13-15 in Kearney, Nebraska. UCO his hosting the NCAA Division II Central Region Championships May 5-7 at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond.
