Sturch, UCO, Finish Third In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma was within striking distance of the lead down the stretch Tuesday afternoon before finishing third at the Grace Shin Invitational presented by Visit Edmond at the Golf Club of Edmond.

The Bronchos finished the two-day, 36-hole event with an 18-over-par 586, following Monday's brilliant 4-over 288 with a 14-over 298 on Tuesday. Central Missouri won the team title with a 12-over 580, shooting 284 & 296 this week. Arkansas Tech was third with a 583, coming back from a 292 with a team-low 291 on Tuesday. Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwest Missouri rounded out the top five behind the Bronchos.
 
Scarlet Sturch surged up the leaderboard to third place, shooting an even-par 142 this week. The junior from Durant, Oklahoma shot a 1-over 72 Monday before a 1-under 70 on Tuesday.
 
Sturch birdied her first hole of the day before making six consecutive par putts. She made another par after a bogey on No. 8 to make the turn with an even 37. Sturch then made six pars and two birdies to get to 2-under before a bogey on 18 made it 33 on the back nine and 1-under 70 for the day.
 
Grace Hall and MaKaylee Cowan were UCO's next two on the leaderboard at 14th place individually with 4-over-par 146s. Hall followed Monday's 68 with a 78 on Tuesday. Cowan took two strokes off her round, recording a 74 Monday and a 1-over 72 on Tuesday.
 
Layne Ailshie also shot a 78 on Tuesday and dipped to 31st individually at 10-over par with a 152. Estela Castillo shot a 20-over-par 162 with rounds of 75 and 87 this week.
 
Two freshmen played as individuals for the Bronchos. Reagan Plank was one shot back of Hall and Cowan in 18th place. She shot a 1-under 70 on Monday and posted a 6-over 77 on Tuesday. Faith Principato finished with a 158 (80-78).
 
Central Oklahoma began three straight weeks of tournaments with its own this week. The Bronchos will play the Midwest Classic at Mules National in Warrensburg, Missouri next week and the Regional Preview at St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo. in two weeks to wrap up the fall season.
